Basic built-in bookcase

I crafted this in about an hour and a 50 percent with $20 worthy of of 6″ pine lumber. It fits the place properly, and bought a good deal of my textbooks up off of the flooring. I slash rabbet joints in the uprights with a router and a 3/4″ slot bit, and nailed each and every joint with two eight-penny ending nails. It is easy to overlook how sturdy basic joints are if you spend a whole lot of time performing extravagant joints. The shelf is stable as a rock, and for 90 minutes, you won’t be able to beat the features.

Note that the best way to slice rabbets for uprights like this is to clamp the two uprights aspect-by side, with their front edges clamped with each other… all the slots are then beautifully aligned, and with the two entrance edges clamped, breakout is minimized.
