In the initially pair of hundreds of years or so A.D, the Germani tribe was dominant in northern Denmark. Following a navy victory, it was their custom to hurl war booty into the closest bog!
Just in the vicinity of Odense, is a enormous bog identified as Vimose containing a considerable amount of these war booty sacrifices. In the 1860s excavations took spot there and the peaty situations preserved a huge amount of wooden objects including two picket planes, most likely designed by the Romans, now acknowledged as Vimose A and B. Vimose A is in outstanding problem and this is a reconstruction I have just finished (April 2009), in boxwood, the identical substance as the original. The sole is 50 % round concave and may well perfectly have been utilised for making a little something like spear shafts.
The replica is now in a personal museum in Yorkshire.
