The Buzzards Bay-14 was built by L.Francis Herreshoff in 1945 as a abide by-on to the Herreshoff 12 1/2 made by his father, N.G. Herreshoff.
These are beautiful, typical wooden boats. We ordinarily develop them with a fir or purpleheart stem and keel, mahogany transom (seen in this image) and western purple cedar planking. The boats are commonly a two year task for us.
In this photograph, the hull has been completed, caulked and paid (caulking lined with a water-resistant materials). The hull is becoming sanded to a sleek curve. The gray paint about the white primer helps the learners, like the generations of boatbuilders before them, to see the bumps and hollows in the hull so it can be smoothed out.
The Northwest College of Picket Boatbuilding is found in Port Hadlock WA and is a non-public, accredited non-earnings vocational faculty.
