Artists of all sorts were invited to use for the possibility to take a look at our Goddard Space Flight Middle to be impressed by the giant, golden, totally-assembled James Webb Area Telescope mirror. Webb has a mirror that is nearly 22 ft large and (to improve it for infrared observations) is protected in a microscopic layer of precise gold. Simply because of Webb’s visually striking physical appearance, the challenge hosted a unique viewing event on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.

There was an mind-boggling reaction to the function invitation and ultimately twenty-four individuals had been chosen to attend. They represented a broad assortment of inventive media and designs, such as: watercolor, 3D printed sculpture, silk screening, acrylics, sumi-e (East Asian brush technique), comics, letterpress, woodwork, metalwork, jewellery building, fiber artwork, ink, mural portray, kite-generating, tattooing, scientific illustration, poetry, songwriting, and online video producing.

The artists used several several hours sitting right in entrance of the telescope, wherever they sketched, painted, took images and even filmed a tunes video.

Though some of the items of artwork ended up concluded at the party, most of the artists went property with their heads entire of tips and sketchbooks whole of notes.

Artist’s Statement

The letters in this piece were being hand drawn, laser slice out of wood, and the letterpress printed from the wooden blocks. The piece explores new procedures and procedures. The hexagons in the history signify the unfinished telescope. The printing blocks are themselves pieces of artwork created in the producing of the last poster.
