Chris’s devotion to Windsor chair making has embraced eco-friendly woodworking for the Bodging Milano venture which noticed a devoted band of home furnishings makers build a chair from inexperienced wood in the forest to acquire to the Milan furniture reasonable.

“Bodging Milano originally came about when artist and designer Chris Eckersley was questioned to design and style a chair for the Midlands home furnishings organization Sitting Company. The resulting chairs (termed ‘Arden’) ended up a modern-day advancement on the standard English Windsor Chair.
Later on on Chris came across Gudrun Leitz’s chairmaking programs and imagined he really should investigate eco-friendly-woodworking (a.k.a ‘bodging’) to see what it was all about. He sent some photos back again from the woods to Rory Dodd at Designersblock, who claimed: would not it be fantastic to do a little something like that and existing it at the Salone del Cellular in Milan? So Bodging Milano was born. Gudrun agreed to start out her programme of courses a week early, Chris rounded up his furniture good friends, and ahead of we realized it there was a group of designers assembled at Clissett Wooden in deepest Herefordshire, and ready to bodge.
That was in 2010. From what we believed was a a single-off venture, Bodging Milano has created a life of its personal, building an more and more vast assortment of experimental pursuits. For London Style and design Competition in 2010 we offered The Superb Broomstick Bodge at the V&A, and in 2011 we established up the yearly Terrific Windsor Chair Race at the Contemporary Craft Festival. In 2012 William Warren instigated a challenge whereby some of the crew developed new designs for Lloyd Loom of Spalding, Gareth Neal acquired on his bicycle again to Herefordshire In Pursuit of Carbon Damaging, and the terrific Japanese chairmaker Koji Katsuragi arrived above to join our new group of designers for Bodging Milano 2. Past calendar year (2013) observed a retrospective exhibition at the Harley Gallery, total with an comprehensive catalogue containing essays by members in the venture, and a fingers-on chairmaking party for the general public : Putting the ‘H’ again into Worksop.”
