We are creating a public makerspace in Tam Higher School’s point out-of-the-artwork woodshop, to produce interesting objects — and grow a community of makers, pupils and teachers in South Marin.
In this article are some of the artworks we are generating in Geo Monley’s woodworking workshop, called ‘You Can Build It’. With his aid, I am setting up a ‘maker artwork cart’ to showcase the operate of our pupils — and Howard Rheingold is producing a triangular desk for our Pataphysical Studios.
This week, I made use of the laser cutter to make characters for our City of the Foreseeable future study course. In this ‘maker art’ course, decrease and center faculty pupils will build a futuristic dwelling with a cardboard ‘wonderbox’ and animated characters such as these. They will convey these wood and acrylic figures to lifestyle with lights, seems and motion, using straightforward electronics.
Geo confirmed off ‘Maker Field’, the animatronic city his high faculty pupils are building with his assistance. Here’s their work in progress, which now capabilities a wide range of structures (which include ‘Trump Towers’ and a 5V energy plant), as nicely as a robotic automobile powered with Arduino.
These tasks are superior examples of what we could assistance with far more maker courses for grownups and teenagers in this new Tam Large makerspace. Far more on this later.
