Berberis fremontii—Fremont barberry. There are 17 populations of this species in the Mojave Nationwide Maintain (San Bernadino County) and southern San Diego County. It is much more prevalent in Arizona where there is more than enough for the Hopi tribe to use the stems for woodworking crafts. There are a handful of populations in Baja California as properly. As an apart, taxonomists have disagreed for a century and a half regardless of whether or not to contact the California barberries Mahonia or Berberis. You should not assume the difficulty to be resolved anytime quickly. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Backyard garden situated in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
