A day out exploring in Neath Valley. October 2019

A bit of a last moment trip soon after unforeseen fantastic temperature. I would cycled through the valley recently and seen some dereliction, so I was keen to come back again with a digicam.
Due to the fact the cycle I would been learning maps and making an attempt to investigate the areas I would noticed with a minimal achievement.
A peculiar row of houses and what looked like a manor in Clyne. A derelict victorian school in Clyne. And both a military or industrial web page in Rheola.

I also needed to visit Cwmllynfell exactly where an open up solid quarry was encroaching on the village and had now swallowed up a home or two and a lane. I fancied viewing Cefn Coed Colliery Museum much too.

Savored both equally sites at Clyne, didn’t get to see much as Rheola, Cwmllynfell was not as intriguing as I hoped as the google maps I would been researching had been out of date, and the museum was shut for winter! Not a negative working day out however.

Pen y Bank
An odd semi detached dwelling, located in a discipline with no evident road or track going to it. Tricky to say how extensive it had been empty, as some of the woodwork etc was in alright affliction.
Livestock now utilizing it as shelter, even though I wouldn’t be eager to be in listed here all through superior winds as it won’t search like it’s going to survive for extensive.
Traces of a tramway just driving the home, and stays of coal mining in the trees guiding. previous-maps.co.british isles tells me that there was also a tin performs in the up coming subject. Resolven Tin Plate Operates operational from some thing like 1890 – 1949?
The trees on both of those sides of Twrch Brook is littered with rusty equipment and smaller ideas from the mining, though a decreased industry [location of Tin Plate Works] seems to be a farm equipment graveyard, such as this charming Fordson tractor with a tree growing out of it.
