This element is from a study, (or studiolo), intended for meditation and review. Its partitions are carried out in a wooden-inlay technique recognised as intarsia. The latticework doorways of the cupboards, proven open up or partly closed, indicate the up to date interest in linear viewpoint. The cupboards screen objects reflecting Duke Federico’s large-ranging artistic and scientific interests, and the depictions of publications remember his considerable library. Emblems of the Montefeltro are also represented. This space may possibly have been built by Francesco di Giorgio (1439-1502) and was executed by Giuliano da Majano (1432-1490). A comparable space, in situ, was produced for the duke’s palace at Urbino.
