This element is from a study, (or studiolo), intended for meditation and research. Its partitions are carried out in a wood-inlay procedure recognised as intarsia. The latticework doorways of the cupboards, proven open up or partly shut, reveal the present-day curiosity in linear perspective. The cupboards screen objects reflecting Duke Federico’s large-ranging inventive and scientific interests, and the depictions of books remember his comprehensive library. Emblems of the Montefeltro are also represented. This space might have been built by Francesco di Giorgio (1439-1502) and was executed by Giuliano da Majano (1432-1490). A identical area, in situ, was manufactured for the duke’s palace at Urbino.
