We are developing a public makerspace in Tam Higher School’s point out-of-the-art woodshop, to make great objects — and mature a neighborhood of makers, college students and lecturers in South Marin.
Here are some of the artworks we are building in Geo Monley’s woodworking workshop, known as ‘You Can Build It’. With his assist, I am building a ‘maker artwork cart’ to showcase the operate of our college students — and Howard Rheingold is building a triangular desk for our Pataphysical Studios.
This week, I used the laser cutter to make people for our City of the Future course. In this ‘maker art’ course, decrease and center school students will make a futuristic home with a cardboard ‘wonderbox’ and animated characters these as these. They will carry these wooden and acrylic figures to lifetime with lights, sounds and motion, employing very simple electronics.
Geo confirmed off ‘Maker Field’, the animatronic metropolis his high faculty learners are creating with his assist. Here’s their work in progress, which now functions a wide variety of buildings (which includes ‘Trump Towers’ and a 5V electric power plant), as effectively as a robot car or truck powered with Arduino.
These initiatives are very good examples of what we could help with far more maker plans for grown ups and teenagers in this new Tam Higher makerspace. Additional on this afterwards.
