This proprietor hails from Belluvue WA, and had just finished his SCAMP at the beginning of July, 2015.

The Palooza Crooza is an outgrowth of the Pocket Yacht Palooza. It commences the working day soon after the one-day Pocket Yacht Palooza, which is normally the 3rd Saturday in July at the Northwest Maritime Centre in Port Townsend WA, and can be ideal characterised, I think, as a compact craft team sailing expedition that some may well call a “gradual-movement raid”. It is most emphatically not a race, but an amble in boats of all forms. For additional info, speak to organizer Marty Loken at norseboater22 at gmail.com

The 2015 Palooza Crooza commenced in Port Townsend on Sunday, July 19th, 2015, a brilliantly sunny day, with about 10 knots of wind. I counted 22 boats, including a solitary and two double kayaks. Just one utility tug (the 26-foot BLUE STAR) and a single energy catamaran (JUST ENUF, a Bernd Kohler design and style) accompanied the fleet.

The track the 1st working day took us south throughout Port Townsend Bay, through the Port Townsend Canal among the Olympic Peninsula and Indian Island, then south across Oak Bay, passing Olele Place, and into Mats Mats Bay for the evening. With temperatures reaching nearly 90 levels less than completely crystal clear skies, the winds died in lessen Port Townsend Bay and the fleet ended up rowing and applying the iron wind (engines) to make it to Mats Mats.

The track the second working day took the fleet from Mats Mats Bay to Fort Flagler State Park, east of Marrowstone Island together the main shipping channel in the Puget Seem. The weather conditions begun out darkish and cloudy, with temperatures in the minimal 60’s and 10-15 knot winds out of the south, backing into the south-southeast and then east-northeast as the fleet built its way north in baffled 2-3 foot lumpy seas on a favorable ebb tide. When past Marrowstone Issue, with its exclusive lighthouse, the fleet loved a downwind operate along the north-going through cliffs and designed it past Ratt Island and into Kilisut Harbor amongst Marrowstone and Indian Island in the late early morning. The very last vessel arrived just soon after 1pm. By that time, the skies had cleared and a stunning however considerably cooler afternoon was enjoyed by all.

The track the 3rd day was a somewhat quick run from Fort Flagler State Park to Thriller Bay State Park on Marrowstone Island and, for some boats, a return to Fort Flagler Condition Park.

The track the fourth and closing working day took the remaining 2015 Palooza Croosa individuals from Kilisut Harbor back again to Port Townsend’s Boat Haven and the end of the cruise.
