A day out exploring in Neath Valley. October 2019
A little bit of a previous moment vacation just after unforeseen excellent weather. I might cycled by means of the valley recently and noticed some dereliction, so I was eager to appear again with a digicam.
Considering that the cycle I would been researching maps and hoping to investigate the locations I might noticed with a very little achievement.
A strange row of houses and what appeared like a manor in Clyne. A derelict victorian university in Clyne. And either a navy or industrial internet site in Rheola.
I also needed to visit Cwmllynfell in which an open solid quarry was encroaching on the village and experienced presently swallowed up a residence or two and a lane. I fancied viewing Cefn Coed Colliery Museum way too.
Relished both equally web-sites at Clyne, did not get to see substantially as Rheola, Cwmllynfell was not as exciting as I hoped as the google maps I might been researching have been out of date, and the museum was shut for winter season! Not a lousy day out even though.
Pen y Financial institution
An odd semi detached home, situated in a discipline with no apparent highway or monitor going to it. Challenging to say how very long it experienced been empty, as some of the woodwork etc was in okay affliction.
Livestock now applying it as shelter, whilst I wouldn’t be eager to be in right here through higher winds as it won’t glance like it’ll endure for long.
Traces of a tramway just driving the dwelling, and remains of coal mining in the trees driving. old-maps.co.british isles tells me that there was also a tin functions in the following industry. Resolven Tin Plate Performs operational from a thing like 1890 – 1949?
The trees on both equally sides of Twrch Brook is littered with rusty equipment and smaller ideas from the mining, though a reduced industry [location of Tin Plate Works] looks to be a farm equipment graveyard, which include this pretty Fordson tractor with a tree escalating out of it.
