Lego Divider Drawers!

Lego Divider Drawers!

So I have been doing work on this since this last semester finished, and I have lastly concluded. Form of. There are 4 extra drawers that will need to be put up and a different 20-40 or so that will need to be constructed. So ya, this is likely to be an ongoing job.

The drawer that is open up is what I’m heading to be speaking about as the top rated drawer was the prototype and all the other drawers that I make will be like the open up one particular. The room that I had for the drawer was 27″ large, so I figured I could make a 26″ large drawer then have 1/2″ on both conclude for the runners. I have a really large lego collection and a total woodshop (very low-center vary tools and yardsale finds), I won’t be able to afford to pay for $10-20 for definitely extravagant drawer slides for all 30-40 drawers that I am going to finally have – some staying shallower than 3″. To clear up that fiscal challenge, I just slice some scrap 2x4s down to 3/8″ x what ever the other side is…I truly don’t try to remember if I in fact measured it or not.

The drawer slides enable for 1/8″ of air between the drawer and the legs of the table on either aspect. There is a slight concern when taking into thought that if the drawer is all the way to one particular facet (like it is in this photo) then now there is 1/4″ on the other side. But a little bit of math and figuring points out that I will not remember the exact quantities for, but in essence no make a difference how much the drawer goes to a single side, it will never ever drop down. This is pleasant mainly because that big gap involving the drawer and table legs enables for some…considerably less than desirable accuracy that comes with 2x4s. Er…2x3s.

Transferring on… The manage was a straightforward make. Its like an inch-ish tall, I believe 3/4″ thick, and there is a bevel on the bottom. The first deal with did not have that bevel and it was essentially ineffective. When I minimize the bevel, I just tilted the tablesaw blade to 45 degrees and ripped the board. I did acquire observe that I did not want the edge of the 45 to be a sharp edge simply because I didnt want to slice my fingers. So my answer is to have about 3/8″ of flatness (?) on the idea.

Considering the fact that the drawers usually are not distinct, I hotglued some legos to the front (2×3, 2×2, and 2×4 L-R) to assistance display me where by the items are. Will that harm the parts? Probably? Brickset claims I’m close to 115k and this is about fifty percent of my simple 2x’s so I believe I can spare a couple. The past slot I imagine I’m heading to use for 2×6+ considering the fact that I really don’t have an abundance of individuals and want to retain them with the other 2xs. The 1x drawer is heading to be fun simply because I just remembered that I bought about 200 yellow 1x2s on bricklink a couple years back again. Why? I have no notion. They were being $.01/ea and they had ~200 of them so I acquired them. I’m contemplating creating a massive yellow castle, but I do not have sufficient for the scale I’m wanting, nor do I have a spot to set it atm.

So with that, I believe I only have one much more lego/woodworking undertaking coming up. Also waiting for my neighborhood lego keep to stock trans-blue studs so I can continue on my lego job with no the will need for a multi-thousand greenback mortgage…
