A working day out discovering in Neath Valley. Oct 2019

A bit of a previous minute trip soon after unforeseen superior climate. I would cycled via the valley not long ago and seen some dereliction, so I was keen to occur again with a digital camera.
Given that the cycle I might been studying maps and trying to research the destinations I might spotted with a minimal accomplishment.
A weird row of homes and what looked like a manor in Clyne. A derelict victorian university in Clyne. And either a military or industrial web-site in Rheola.

I also needed to stop by Cwmllynfell wherever an open cast quarry was encroaching on the village and experienced already swallowed up a house or two and a lane. I fancied traveling to Cefn Coed Colliery Museum much too.

Liked the two web pages at Clyne, failed to get to see significantly as Rheola, Cwmllynfell was not as intriguing as I hoped as the google maps I might been finding out were being out of day, and the museum was shut for winter! Not a lousy working day out though.

Pen y Lender
An odd semi detached residence, positioned in a field with no apparent road or keep track of likely to it. Complicated to say how lengthy it experienced been empty, as some of the woodwork and many others was in alright ailment.
Livestock now employing it as shelter, although I wouldn’t be keen to be in listed here in the course of high winds as it won’t glance like it’s going to survive for long.
Traces of a tramway just powering the property, and remains of coal mining in the trees behind. outdated-maps.co.uk tells me that there was also a tin is effective in the subsequent area. Resolven Tin Plate Operates operational from one thing like 1890 – 1949?
The trees on both of those sides of Twrch Brook is littered with rusty machinery and smaller strategies from the mining, although a lower subject [location of Tin Plate Works] looks to be a farm machinery graveyard, such as this beautiful Fordson tractor with a tree developing out of it.
