Jay made me this roosting box for Xmas and we’ve had it up for some time now. It is basically a risk-free haven for the birds to roost in bitter wintertime weather. Clinging birds can dangle on to the slots on the back again, although roosting birds can perch on the perches. There are about 6 perches inside. It has been so bitter cold and windy right now that I was especially grateful for this great Christmas current. Certainly, these photos were taken just prior to we set it up on the side of our home. I have noticed downy woodpeckers roosting in my bluebird houses, so I hope the birds are getting this box cozy. If you google “winter season roosting containers” you will find quite a few sets of strategies for building one particular oneself. The birds will thank you and you will be rewarded with their tune and antics by the winter season.
