Joseph O. A. Bryere moved from Quebec to Raquette Lake in 1882, married regional Mary Gooley in 1884, and alongside one another they built their well known wilderness lodge, Brightside-On-Raquette, which they operated for 50 a long time. Apart from staying the camp’s host and caretaker, Joe was also a learn woodworker, furnishings craftsman, carpenter and looking manual. All through the long Adirondack winters he created many rustic furniture pieces in his workshop previously mentioned the lakeside boathouse. 1 winter season in his later on years, he went by the lake ice on a fateful, bitterly chilly day whilst returning to Brightside with groceries and provides in a horse drawn wagon. He survived the ensuing pneumonia, but lost a leg to frostbite.
