Sutton Coldfield’s historic parish church of Holy Trinity had extensive been on my ‘to do’ listing, having failed to get entry on my last visit a few of years ago. I would been ready to get pleasure from it can be pink sandstone exterior, with it really is mixture of 15th century and Victorian features, but it is inner visual appearance and contents mainly remained a secret to me, until eventually now.

The church alone is rather restored (the outer north aisle is a Victorian extension), and the arcades are all curiously rounded from mid 16th century and later on rebuildings and expose galleries in the aisles. It all seemed pretty gloomy with so a great deal purple stone and dark woodwork, but C.E.Bateman’s early 20th century ceiling decoration (nave, chancel and north chapel) is magnificent and does much to cheer up an if not sombre interior. There is also a wonderful Norman font, at first in nearby Nether Whitacre church prior to it’s rebuilding.
