On my last visit I was adopted into the church by four Italian tourists, who rapidly realised their error and headed back again out to obtain St Bartholomew the Excellent. The only other customer was a girl in a dressing gown who lit a candle and sobbed quietly. Occasionally you want this in the City to remind you what the church buildings are basically there for.
