This is a German Kunz no 7 check out aircraft. I can’t identify the age of this airplane, as minor is knob about the enterprise. This certain plane is a single of my heirlooms, as it at the time belonged to my late grandfather. This plane was almost certainly applied by him in lots of diverse techniques but given that he developed his summer months cottage in the Finnish archipelago by him´myself, I would presume that this plane was really substantially included.
The aircraft has been practically unused considering the fact that the early 1970s when my grandfather handed away. And owning become interested in woodworking I stumbled in excess of this hand aircraft when going to the summer time cottage in 2011. Following expending approximately forty several years in a unheated summer time cottage and currently being exposed to the moist and salty winds of the Gulf of Finland, this aircraft had even now managed pretty very well. When I identified the aircraft it was plainly afflicted with gentle floor rust and what appeared like salt stains on the sole, but all in all, the aircraft experienced survived very properly.
Herr Gustav Kunz was a modest male. The plane was only marked with the company identify at the the toe with the product range at the heel. The lever cap and iron are unmarked at the entrance, but if you switch the iron about, the initials GK are stamped at the back.
This aircraft is not fitted with a frog changing screw on the back of the frog. Also the blade adjuster is relatively small, especially thinking about the size of the plane. The fantastic point is that it leaves extra room for your hand, but turning the wheel with just two fingers can be a little bit of an concern.
The airplane is in rather first rate condition, with only slight reduction of the japanning. Every component on this plane seems to be unique. The handles look to be apple. They are lacquered but I won’t be able to explain to if this was first or one thing my grandfather included.
The user knowledge is extremely superior. The Kunz iron is a good a person and slightly thicker than the Stanley irons. I haven’t fettled a complete lot with it as I very seldom have a will need for a no 7 and I also want to make guaranteed I won’t damage it.
