Dining Table

I have desired a larger dining table for a when, and I really like the round loved ones-fashion issue a lot of Chinese eating places have going on. I’ve had difficulty acquiring a huge circular desk, while, without likely into the realm of Wonderful Household furniture ™ i.e. dropping a grand on anything handmade by a authentic carpenter.

So I created my own. Below it is, laying face-down on the ground, ready to be glued and screwed collectively. A wonderful 60″ circle designed out of birch ply (a 42″ inscribed circle with 4 curved edge leaves, even though I am not bothering to make them fold down.) The circle is not flawlessly spherical simply because I hand-minimize the curved edges with my jigsaw and only gave them a cursory sanding afterwards, but toss a tablecloth on that and it will seem great. Or just don’t search much too shut. I did make certain the grain on the birch strains up effectively and all, at least.

The grid underneath is just 2×2 pine.

The legs will be these, for the reason that I like the total “classical silhouette in angled steel” appear. I have to go pick them up tomorrow. But the glue will not likely be dry tonight anyway.

Overall price? $32 for the plywood, $3.50 for the 2×2 inventory, $4 for the wood glue, $4 for the screws, and $40 for the legs: $83.50 for a 60″ spherical desk.
