This is a German Kunz no 7 check out plane. I simply cannot establish the age of this aircraft, as very little is knob about the company. This particular plane is just one of my heirlooms, as it after belonged to my late grandfather. This plane was likely utilized by him in a lot of distinct means but because he constructed his summer months cottage in the Finnish archipelago by him´myself, I would believe that this aircraft was really a great deal involved.

The aircraft has been just about unused considering that the early 1970s when my grandfather passed away. And possessing grow to be intrigued in woodworking I stumbled in excess of this hand plane when going to the summertime cottage in 2011. Right after investing just about forty yrs in a unheated summertime cottage and becoming exposed to the damp and salty winds of the Gulf of Finland, this aircraft experienced nevertheless managed quite effectively. When I discovered the aircraft it was evidently afflicted with gentle floor rust and what appeared like salt stains on the sole, but all in all, the aircraft experienced survived incredibly well.
Herr Gustav Kunz was a modest man. The plane was only marked with the business title at the the toe with the model variety at the heel. The lever cap and iron are unmarked at the entrance, but if you change the iron around, the initials GK are stamped at the back again.

This airplane is not equipped with a frog changing screw on the back of the frog. Also the blade adjuster is rather tiny, specially considering the size of the plane. The good factor is that it leaves much more room for your hand, but turning the wheel with just two fingers can be a little bit of an situation.

The aircraft is in very decent shape, with only slight reduction of the japanning. Every aspect on this aircraft appears to be original. The handles look to be apple. They are lacquered but I cannot notify if this was initial or anything my grandfather included.

The user practical experience is really fantastic. The Kunz iron is a very good 1 and somewhat thicker than the Stanley irons. I haven’t fettled a whole ton with it as I extremely rarely have a require for a no 7 and I also want to make guaranteed I will never injury it.
