This is a German Kunz no 7 consider airplane. I simply cannot figure out the age of this plane, as minor is knob about the company. This specific aircraft is a person of my heirlooms, as it at the time belonged to my late grandfather. This aircraft was in all probability utilised by him in quite a few diverse strategies but given that he created his summer time cottage in the Finnish archipelago by him´myself, I would suppose that this plane was really much associated.
The aircraft has been practically unused since the early 1970s when my grandfather handed absent. And having develop into intrigued in woodworking I stumbled in excess of this hand aircraft when viewing the summer season cottage in 2011. Soon after expending nearly forty several years in a unheated summertime cottage and being exposed to the moist and salty winds of the Gulf of Finland, this airplane had however managed very well. When I identified the airplane it was clearly impacted with light surface rust and what seemed like salt stains on the sole, but all in all, the aircraft had survived quite nicely.
Herr Gustav Kunz was a modest person. The aircraft was only marked with the business name at the the toe with the design amount at the heel. The lever cap and iron are unmarked at the entrance, but if you turn the iron about, the initials GK are stamped at the back.
This aircraft is not fitted with a frog altering screw on the again of the frog. Also the blade adjuster is relatively tiny, primarily contemplating the measurement of the aircraft. The great thing is that it leaves much more home for your hand, but turning the wheel with just two fingers can be a little bit of an difficulty.
The airplane is in rather decent form, with only slight loss of the japanning. Each individual section on this airplane appears to be original. The handles look to be apple. They are lacquered but I can’t inform if this was original or anything my grandfather additional.
The person experience is really very good. The Kunz iron is a excellent just one and marginally thicker than the Stanley irons. I haven’t fettled a whole large amount with it as I very rarely have a need to have for a no 7 and I also want to make positive I will never harm it.
