The Grade I Mentioned Chapel at the Bishop’s Palace, in Wells, Somerset.

This uncomplicated, swish setting up is committed to the Holy Trinity and St. Mark. The uncommon devotion is depicted in the present day icon by Silvia Dimitrova which stands to the aspect of the altar. Created by Bishop Robert Burnell at around the very same time as the adjoining Great Corridor in the late-thirteenth century, the windows are surprisingly big for the interval and the tracery in them is an extremely fine example of the Early English fashion. The roof bosses are of naturalistic foliage and strange animals painted in standard medieval colours.

The Chapel was restored by Bishop George Henry Law in the nineteenth century. In the windows he used fragments of French medieval glass from churches in the Rouen spot, which ended up ruined in the groundbreaking era.

The pews are early-twentieth century and had been carved by apprentice craftsmen from all around the diocese. A keen eye can spot the names of their parishes carved into the woodwork.

The Chapel was re-ordered in 2006. The new altar, made of maple and Ancaster stone, was intended by David John and built by Richard Richardson. The altar stands higher than engraved stone perform by John Rowlands Pritchard, with the text, ‘God was in Christ reconciling the globe to himself and has offered us the ministry of reconciliation’. (2 Corinthians 5:18).
