The Nelson courthouse was missing its covering of ivy and the facade has been cleaned.
Architecturally, the 1908 crafted Nelson Courthouse is valued as a prominent and important operate of noteworthy B.C. architect Francis Mawson Rattenbury.
It also retains essential associations with area architect Alexander Carrie and former mayor W. G. Gillett, who acted as Clerk of the Works and main contractor on the creating venture, respectively.
Deemed the handsomest building in the city at the time of it completion, its imposing and elaborate layout is not only aesthetically satisfying, but didactic in character its solidity of resources and ornate style features testify to Nelson’s increasing importance as a judicial centre at the starting of the twentieth century.

The front entrance and foyer were being firebombed on 04 February 1962. The quickly thinking and steps of neighborhood taxi driver, David “Buster” Wigg, prevented the constructing from becoming lowered to rubble.
The rear of the web site contained the gallows which have been previous in use on 21 November 1902.
The charge of construction was $109,145. The architect, F M Rattenbury, also intended the British Columbia Parliament Setting up and the Empress Lodge in Victoria.
The Contractor W G Gillett, who was Mayor of Nelson from 1906 to 1907, used Kootenay marble quarried from his individual Kaslo website for the development.
Gillett employed British Columbia Douglas Fir for the interior woodwork, and the roof was created of slate taken from the west coast.
