This is a threaded insert with #8 device thread inside and it matches in a 1/4-inch hole. Threaded inserts are really handy but they enjoy to screw in crooked. My process for environment them straight is proven in this sequence of pictures.
I use a prolonged #8 screw with two nuts jammed together to push the insert. With these kinds of a very long screw I can drive the insert to go in straight. I dress in a glove on my still left hand in case I slip with the screwdriver.
