Subsequent to the launch of the Mazda MX-5 in 1989, MG (by then owned by Rover Team) manufactured new overall body panels for the conventional MGB body shell in 1992 to create an up-to-date MGB design. The suspension was only a bit updated, sharing the leaf spring rear of the MGB. The boot lid and doors were being shared with the unique vehicle, as have been the rear drum brakes. The motor was the 3.9-litre version of the aluminium Rover V8, related to the one particular beforehand employed in the MGB GT V8. A constrained-slip differential was also equipped.
The inside featured veneered burr elm woodwork and Connolly leather-based.
The motor developed 190 bhp (142 kW) at 4,750 rpm, obtaining 0–60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.9 seconds. Mainly thanks to the rear drum brakes and rear leaf springs, the RV8 was not well known with street testers.
A significant proportion of the confined MG RV8 output went to Japan – 1,579 of the 1,983 generated. A few-hundred and thirty RV8s had been bought at first in the Uk. Quite a few hundred (probably as quite a few as 700) of these cars and trucks have been re-imported back to the British isles and also Australia among 2000–2010 with a peak selection of 485 registered at the DVLA in the British isles. Several resources contemplate this a continuation of the MGB design.
